Read ‘The History of Manga’ sheet ,clicking on the link Comic book artists.

Make notes of their unique techniques (eg…drawing a characters legs to show that they are running).

Can you see the similarities between these traditional Japanese prints and contemporary Manga comics?

Look at the pictures provided.

Week 1

Thursday 22/4/21

Look carefully at the different types of Manga and google the correct pronunciation.

Research at least 2 different Manga or Anime animation cartoons.

Do you like or dislike the style?

Lesson 1: To create a front page for your project: Title Manga Art.

Look at the images and think about what makes them distinctive?

Cut out and stick one of the pictures and write a list of things describing this style.

Week 2,

Tuesday 27/4/2

Objective: to practice drawing individual features in the style of Manga Art.

Look at the sheet showing Features to create expression (mouth, eyes, etc).

Use the worksheets to draw a Manga character step by step.

Add expression by changing shapes of the textures.

To create a digital self portrait in the style of Manga.

Create your own Manga portrait.

Click on the link to create a Manga version of yourself.

Do you have a favourite Anime character?

Explain what you like about them.

Week 3

To analyse the story and visualise the characters . Lokk at how Manga artists are breaking down the story frame by frame . Choose a simple story like Humpty Dumpty or a song lyric or poem . Describe the main character . Include his or her feelings and emotions . Try to visualise the scene and split it into 6 frames . Write down what you want to put in each frame .

To analyse the story and visualise the characters.

Write down what you want to put in each frame.

Week 4

Tuesday 11/5/21

Think of what movements your characters will be doing ,step by step.

In the first stage, plot out four to six boxes on a piece of paper and write your first actions in each box, with the caption under them.

Decide on the angel for each frame. Close up or background shot Horizontal or vertical maybe slanted? How does this affect the scene?

Week 4

Thursday 13/5/21

Developing your characters. Sketch out the story into your layout. Collect visual sources to help develop your character. You can use tracing paper to pick up elements of the collected images .

Week 5

Tuesday 18/5/21 and Thursday 20/5/21

Continue developing your story board by sketching images. Rewrite the panels on a different sheet of paper and fit them together. This process can be done several times until the manga-Ka sees the page as completed.

After you have made the perfect page, ink it with biro pens or fine liners,which ever you prefer. Keep your drawings to bring into school .

Week 6

Tuesday 25/5/21

Create a refined version of your comic. By adding background and inking up your final version. To create atmosphere in your story you can use different backgrounds .Manga artists often use action lines to indicate movement . Backgrounds can be cut out and placed behind your image. You can edit your image on the computer to add backgrounds.

Week 6

Thursday 27/5/21

Evaluate your work. Look at the success criteria and evaluate your outcome. Talk about visual sources, character development and story layout and presentation. Keep it simple but effective!
