Curriculum offerKS2

Key Stage 2 are taught following the National Curriculum in a primary format. The pupils are in 2 mixed age class groups of Year 3 and 4, and Year 5 and 6. Their curriculum is varied and appropriate for their age and ability. Their curriculum follows the National Curriculum as below:

  • Maths : 5 lessons per week
  • English : 5 lessons per week
  • Spellings : Delivered within English lessons, individualized to suit pupil need
  • Phonics : Delivered as part of English lessons, individualised to suit pupil need
  • Science: 4 lessons per week covering theory and practical sessions
  • History : 2 lessons per week for a half term on a rota with Geography
  • Geography : 2 lessons per week for a half term on a rota with History
  • ICT : 1 lesson per week using a variety of programmes
  • PE : 1 lesson per week covering a wide variety of skills and sports
  • Cooking : 1 lesson per week, pupils cook a variety of items, both sweet and savoury
  • Forest School : 2 lessons per week, pupils focus on outdoor skills and working with Nature
  • Project Based Learning : Different themes delivered over a half term covering a range of subjects
  • Music Therapy : 1 session per week, using music and instruments to assist with mental health and emotion
  • Nurture : All pupils receive a nurture session, working with their pastoral lead on emotional and wellbeing strategies
  • M&E : 1 session per week covering RE, PHSE and citizenship topics relevant to age
KS3

Key Stage 3 have a wide, purposeful curriculum, covering a wide range of subjects in order to prepare them for choosing options. Their curriculum is organized as follows:

  • Maths : 5 lessons per week
  • English : 5 lessons per week
  • Science : 4 lessons per week covering theory and practical sessions
  • History : 1 lesson per week
  • Geography : 1 lesson per week
  • ICT : 1 lesson per week using a variety of programmes
  • PE : 1 lesson per week covering a wide variety of skills and sports
  • Cooking : 1 lesson per week, pupils cook a variety of items, both sweet and savoury

KS4

Key Stage 4 have a bespoke curriculum of academic subjects depending upon the options chosen by the pupil, alongside Alternate Provision which provides a vocational aspect to the offer. The available subjects are:

Core subjects
  • Maths : Entry Level, GCSE.

Pupils have 4 or 5 lessons per week of Maths and study for the exams most suited to them

  • English : Functional skills Level 1 and 2, GCSE.

Pupils have 4 lessons per week of English Language and study for the exams most suited to them. There is also optional English Literature which is covered in 3 sessions per week for allocated groups.

  • Science : Entry level, GCSE Biology, GCSE Combined Science dual award.

Pupils have 4 or 5 lessons per week of Science and study for the exams most suited to them

  • PE : Pupils receive 1 session per week of PE covering a variety of skills and sports and developing teamwork and communication skills
  • M&E : 1 session per week covering RE, PHSE and citizenship topics relevant to age
  • Nurture : All pupils receive a nurture session, working with their pastoral lead on emotional and wellbeing strategies
Options
  • History : History GCSE, Entry Level 1

Pupils have 2 or 3 lessons per week and work towards the GCSE award in Year 10 or the Entry Level in Year 11

  • ICT : Computer Science

Pupils have 2 lessons of ICT per week looking at computer systems and use

  • Art : GCSE

Pupils study Art 1 day per week, working with a variety of mediums and skills towards the GCSE award.

  • Duke of Edinburgh

Pupils access an afternoon per week where they complete voluntary work in the local community. They also complete supervised walks and a 2 night stay where they are required to complete 5 hours of planned activities

  • Alternative Provision : Accredited courses

Pupils attend 1 or 2 days per week, learning skills related to hair and beauty, construction and motor vehicle engineering

  • Cookery : WJEC Level 1 and 2

1 lesson per week covering a range of cookery skills, making both sweet and savoury dishes
