In an exciting turn of events, a Year 10 student from Woolston Brook School has recently clinched the coveted Student's Choice Award at an art competition hosted by Warrington & Vale Royal College. This remarkable achievement not only underscores her artistic talent but also reflects the inspiring creative spirit thriving within the local community.
The talented young artist, has always held a deep passion for nature, particularly trees. “From being a child,” she shares, “I have always been inspired by trees, especially when walking in forests where they are so tall that they look like they intertwine with the sky.” It's evident that her fascination with the natural world has played a significant role in her artistic expression—a theme beautifully encapsulated in her award-winning piece.
Her artwork is a true testament to her dedication and creativity, showcasing an impressive array of techniques. Working diligently alongside her art teacher, Kerry Stockdale, she has crafted a mixed media masterpiece as part of her GCSE art portfolio. “I’ve used Mod Roc, acrylic gel pens, acrylic inks, and graphite pencils on a canvas,” she explains, highlighting the diverse materials that bring her vision to life. The result? A striking piece that not only captivates the eye but resonates on a deeper emotional level.
The predominant colour choice of blue is particularly poignant, symbolising both melancholy and serenity. She thoughtfully incorporated lyrics from the song "You Will Be Found" from her favourite musical, Dear Evan Hansen, adding a layer of depth and personal significance to the piece. “I chose blue as the primary colour because it reflects my feelings very well,” she notes, adding that the lyrical element serves as a reminder of love, support, and finding one's place in the world—a message she holds close to her heart.
The Student's Choice Award, decided by popular vote, demonstrates the impact of her artwork. Upon receiving the accolade, she expressed her delight, stating, “It’s incredible to know that my work resonates with others!”
Woolston Brook School is immensely proud of our Y10 student's achievements and her blossoming talent, which is nurtured by the supportive environment fostered by her art teacher, Kerry Stockdale. The school community eagerly anticipates future artistic endeavours and the contributions she will undoubtedly make to the world of art. With such a promising start, one cannot help but feel that this is merely the beginning of a bright and impactful journey for this budding artist.
