Charity Bake Sale Announcement

By Cath Fowler and Mark Cullen

We are excited to announce an upcoming charity bake sale, organised by our lovely Cooking Tutor, Kaye, which will take place on Thursday, 19th December 2024, during lunchtime in the cookery room. This delightful event is the result of the creative initiative by a thoughtful Year 10 student, who wanted to contribute to our community in a meaningful way. Unfortunately, she will be on her Alternative Provision that day, which means she will not be able to help out with the event she so passionately envisioned. We certainly hope she will have an opportunity to see the success of her idea!

The purpose of this bake sale is not only to indulge in some delicious home-baked treats but also to support a worthy cause. As a community-focused institution, we are always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. This year, we are asking that all students wishing to purchase goods from the bake sale bring in a tin, rather than making a cash payment. We will be collecting these tins to donate to our local food bank, which works diligently to ensure that families in our area do not go hungry, especially during the winter months.

This change in our payment method offers students the opportunity to engage in a simple act of kindness while enjoying tasty treats! The concept of exchanging a tin for a delicious cake or biscuit not only allows us to raise funds through the sale of goodies but also provides much-needed food items for those who might struggle to put meals on the table. It encourages everyone to consider the importance of giving back and supports the spirit of community.

We warmly invite all staff and parents to participate by contributing baked goods for the sale. Whether you’re known for your scrumptious scones or your delightful brownies, we welcome all kinds of sweet and savoury treats! Please keep in mind, however, that we must ensure all baked goods are nut-free, as we are mindful of students who may have allergies. If you would like to contribute but are unsure about what to bake, Kaye is more than happy to provide suggestions or resources that might inspire you.

The bake sale will be open to all students during lunchtime, creating a cheerful gathering space where everyone can come together and enjoy good food for a great cause. In doing this, we hope to instil a sense of community and encourage students to share their culinary skills. Not only is baking an enjoyable activity, but it is also a brilliant way for students to learn about teamwork, organisation, and the joy of giving back through their culinary creations.

To streamline the collection process, children are to hand in their tins at reception when they arrive on the morning of the bake sale. Kaye will compile a list of all contributors and ensure that those who participate have the opportunity to enjoy some delicious baked treats in return for their generous contributions. It's a wonderful way to support both our local food bank and our students’ entrepreneurial spirit!

All parents and carers have been notified about the event through SchoolPing, and we are encouraged by the support we have already received from the community. Together, we can make a considerable impact through our collective contributions and demonstrate the true essence of generosity and kindness.

As we approach the festive season, this bake sale presents an excellent opportunity to not only partake in the pleasures of baking but also to educate our young people about the importance of community spirit. Hosting events like this allows us to foster empathy and awareness in our students, highlighting the need to care for each other and those less fortunate.

We anticipate a wonderful atmosphere on the day, filled with laughter, delicious smells, and the happy chatter of students and staff coming together for a common good. We are looking forward to seeing the creative combinations of flavours and textures that our community will bring to life.

Let’s make this charity bake sale a resounding success! Join us in celebrating this festive season by uniting for a good cause and showcasing our incredible cooking talents. We hope to see everyone there, indulging in a wide array of treats while making a meaningful contribution to our local food bank. Thank you for your generosity and support; together, we can create something truly special. Happy baking!
