Welcome to an exciting and engaging project for Primary 1 students, centred around the spectacular theme of 'Moon Zoom'. Project Based Learning (PBL) offers an excellent opportunity for young learners to immerse themselves in a thematic exploration while developing a variety of skills. Through Moon Zoom, students will embark on a cosmic journey, enhancing their understanding of space, science, and collaboration.

The Vision of Moon Zoom

In Moon Zoom, students will explore the captivating concept of outer space, focusing specifically on the moon, stars, and planets. This project is designed to captivate the imagination of young learners while encouraging them to ask questions, perform research, and present their findings in innovative ways. Such an approach supports the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Project Overview

Over the course of the project, students will be engaged in various activities that span across key subjects, such as science, mathematics, art, and literacy. The project aims to cover the following areas:

1. Understanding the Moon: Students will research what the moon is, its phases, and its significance in our lives. They will discuss basic astronomical concepts, such as gravity and orbits, in a child-friendly manner.

• Story Time and Writing: Read interesting stories about space and famous astronauts. Following the storytelling session, students can write their own imaginative stories featuring adventures on the moon. This will enhance literacy and narrative skills.

• Math with Moon Craters: Create a moon surface using flour and then allow students to drop various-sized objects (like marbles) to create craters. They can count the craters formed and measure their diameters, applying both mathematical concepts and scientific observation.

Role of Educators

As educators, it is vital to adopt a facilitative role during the Moon Zoom project. Provide guidance and support as students navigate through research, collaboration, and creativity. Encourage their discoveries and foster an environment where questions are welcome, and curiosity is celebrated.
