Get Ready for the Advent Tournament!

By Mark Cullen

As we inch closer to the festive season, I'm thrilled to share some fantastic news that will brighten up our school community! Our wonderfully enthusiastic Mathematics Lead, John McMullan, is in the throes of organising one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year: the Advent Tournament! Yes, you heard that right – we're talking about an exciting interscholastic competition featuring Badminton, Pool, and Chess!

Now, I know what you're thinking – with all the hustle and bustle that comes with this time of year, who has the time for tournaments? But trust me, this event is set to bring lots of joy, camaraderie, and a little friendly competition to our school. And who better to lead the charge than John? His passion for both maths and sports is contagious, and I daresay he has a reputation for being incredibly organised. So, you can rest assured that this event is going to be executed flawlessly!

In the coming weeks, you will see John making the rounds, signing up both staff and students for each event. If you haven't had a chance to chat with him yet, do keep an eye out! He’s always up for a natter and eager to share why you should join in. Whether you fancy yourself a Badminton superstar, a Pool shark, or a Chess grandmaster, John will be more than happy to get you on board. So, dust off those rackets and think about your strategy – it’s time to step up!

Now, let's talk about the main event: the Badminton final! Mark your calendars because it’s going to be held in the school hall during the last week of term, right before we dive into the Christmas break. Imagine the thrill of the finals – all eyes on the court, the energy palpable as the whole school gathers to cheer on their favourite players. It’s not just another school assembly; it’s the biggest event in our school calendar! The atmosphere will be electric, and it's a brilliant opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate the sporting talents among us.

But that’s not all! The Badminton final is just the tip of the iceberg. Throughout the tournament, we anticipate seeing some incredible matches in Pool and strategic battles in Chess. It’s a wonderful way to discover hidden talents among our peers and even engage in a bit of good-hearted rivalry. Plus, who knows? You might just surprise yourself and emerge as a champion!

As we prepare for this season of goodwill and joy, let's all blend a little bit of competition into our holiday spirit. The Advent Tournament isn’t just about winning; it’s about bringing our school community closer, making new friends, and creating unforgettable memories.

So, whether you're an avid sports enthusiast or a quiet strategist, come out and support your fellow students and staff. This is an event you won't want to miss, and it calls for school spirit like no other!
