As the saying goes, “Every little helps,” and it seems that our school community has taken this to heart more than ever during this year’s Comic Relief. Under the enthusiastic and crafty leadership of Ms J. Flanagan, a team of dedicated pupils and staff—dubbed the Comic Relief Walking Team—has embarked on a mission to raise funds while embracing the great outdoors. This exciting challenge not only aimed to gather funds for a great cause but also encouraged everyone to step outside, enjoy some fresh air, and bond with one another.
Kicking off their collective journey on the 3rd of March, the group had set themselves the ambitious goal of walking 100,000 steps by the 21st of March. Little did they know how quickly they would eclipse this target. The team has been taking strides during lunchtime park walks and after school, joining forces to stay active and, more importantly, to raise awareness and funds for Comic Relief. Their lively spirit and camaraderie traversed through the chilly mornings and sunny afternoons, where laughter echoed across the park, making each step an adventure.
Fast forward to today, and the Comic Relief Walking Team has collectively achieved an astonishing 102,149 steps—an impressive feat indeed! This milestone was reached just yesterday, on March 18th. As the warm rays of the sun offered a gentle embrace, it seemed fitting that we not only achieved our target but have also smashed it with room to spare. A heartfelt round of applause is most certainly in order for each and every person involved in this remarkable initiative. Well done, team!
If you’re wondering why a group of teachers and students would tramp along park paths counting steps, it’s simple: we are driven by the desire to make a difference. Comic Relief is not just about having a good laugh—it's about coming together to address issues of poverty and injustice. Through the small sacrifices of our time and efforts, we aim to create a ripple effect of positivity that can reach those who truly need it.
Now, if you fancy supporting this fabulous walking team, there’s still a chance to contribute! Ms Flanagan would like to remind all staff that while individual sponsorships could give your wallet a bit of a fright, they can sponsor the group collectively instead. A sponsor form will be left in the staff room for those who wish to sign up. Rest assured, every penny raised will go towards supporting the incredible work that Comic Relief does. After all, it’s not just about the steps we take; it’s about the lives we touch along the way.
So, gather your co-workers during the lunch break, put your walking shoes on, and join the camaraderie—even if it’s just a little stroll around the playground! It’s a fabulous opportunity to contribute to an important cause whilst fortifying our own wellness. Let’s keep the momentum going until the 21st of March and show the world that our school stands firmly behind those who need our help.
