On Wednesday 14th October, our school football team travelled to Leisure United Simpsons on Hillfoot Road, Liverpool, to compete in a 9-a-side football tournament against schools from across the Liverpool and Wigan area.

The tournament featured students from Years 9, 10 and 11 and marked an exciting milestone for the school, as this was our first time competing in a 9-a-side competition, having previously taken part in 5-a-side tournaments last year.

The team adapted well to the change in format and showed plenty of determination, teamwork and resilience throughout the afternoon.

In our opening fixture, the team found themselves 1-0 down but showed great character to fight back and secure a deserved 1-1 draw, with Troy B scoring a late equaliser.

The second game proved to be a much tougher challenge against a very strong opposition. Despite putting in a determined effort, the team unfortunately suffered a 3-0 defeat.

However, the players responded brilliantly in their final fixture. Producing an excellent defensive performance, the team secured a hard-fought 0-0 draw. We were arguably the better side and were unfortunate not to come away with all three points, having struck the post on two occasions.

It was also particularly pleasing to see Lexi from Year 10 represent the school. Becoming only the second girl to feature for the school in this competition, Lexi showed great bravery, confidence and determination throughout her performance and can be extremely proud of her efforts.

Overall, it was a positive first experience of 9-a-side football for the school. The players represented the school brilliantly, and there are plenty of positives to take forward as we look to build on these performances.

Our next fixture is scheduled for 18th November, and we look forward to continuing our progress and hopefully turning some of these encouraging performances into even better results!
